Monitoring Distributed Applications Across Multiple Cloud-Native Platforms - Johannes Bräuer, Dynatrace
Nowadays, companies are moving to the cloud and redesigning their applications using self-built containers and microservices applications, coupled with the adoption of agile methodologies, to quickly react to their customers’ needs. This is commonly referred to as digital transformation.

While Cloud Foundry is designed to run microservices applications, Kubernetes is the counterpart for running self-built containers. To utilize the advantage of both platforms, we see organizations combining these two into multi-cloud solutions (with even different infrastructure providers). Consequently, apps are running next to containers and even interacting with each other. But how can you ensure that the interaction between several cloud abstraction levels works as indented? How can you quickly identify the root cause when users complain about a slow website? Does collecting tons of metrics really provide you with the full picture?

In this talk, we cover a monitoring approach for distributed applications running on multi-cloud platforms. Regardless of the cloud stacks used, you need a monitoring solution that understands different cloud abstraction levels for reporting the health of the entire cluster and that helps to identify bottlenecks impairing the fusion of microservices and containers without adapting your application images.

Leveraging Spring to Develop and Operate Microservices on Pivotal Cloud Foundry - Dieter Flick, Pivotal
Developing cloud-native applications presents several challenges. How do microservices discover each other? How do you configure them? How can you make them resilient to failure? How can you monitor the health of each microservice?

Spring Cloud Services for Pivotal Cloud Foundry picks up where Spring Cloud leaves off, offering an out-of-the-box experience with service registry, a configuration server, and circuit breaker dashboard services that can be bound to applications deployed in Pivotal Cloud Foundry. Developers can focus on developing applications rather than microservices infrastructure.

In this talk, we will introduce the capabilities provided by Spring Cloud Services and demonstrate how it makes deploying and running microservices on Cloud Foundry simple.
